Central heating powerflushing facts and myths
A Powerflush is required on all open vented heating systems when boilers are being replaced. Due to these systems being open to atmosphere they all [99%] need flushing upon new boiler installations on them.
A powerflush will not break through blockages no matter how powerful. They can only circulate. If they can’t then it must be rectified first
A powerflush will cause leaks. Not usually no. If pipework is that corroded then it’s most likely leaking anyway in a small manner
A powerflush performed correctly will save you money on gas and parts bills. Most manufacturers will only honour warranties on clean systems
A powerflush will not cure everything! Some heat exchangers including Vaillant’s EcoTec range cannot be successfully flushed due the there design. With these it’s a best you can get approach.
Powerflushing when performed properly will take up the whole day and a shed load of water. I’ve had some require two days.
Powerflushing is worth it. A well designed system that is clean will be problem free for years and years. It really is that important
